January 2020 – Minimum PIP Awards

07/01/2020

The government has said that it plans to introduce a minimum award length for personal independence payment (PIP).

Details will be published in a National Strategy for Disabled People in 2020 which the Government claims will be ambitious, supporting disabled people in all aspects and phases of their life.

In relation to benefits, the government says these aspects of the Strategy will be considered in a Green Paper, which will explore how the benefits system and wider DWP support can best help disabled people. To support this work, the government advises they are introducing a minimum award length for the personal independence payment recognising the assessment process can be burdensome for some disabled people. At present the plans are that no one will be reassessed for at least 18 months from their last review, unless they notify that their needs have changed.
