April 2016 – New Temporary Absence Rules Delayed
The DWP has confirmed that new rules, that would restricting housing benefit and pension credit entitlement to 4 weeks in the event of temporary absence from Great Britain, are to be delayed until May 2016.
Housing Benefit has a general temporary absence rule. These amendments are intended to make changes so that the period of allowable absence from Great Britain is reduced, generally, from 13 weeks to 4 weeks.
Consultations by the Social Security Advisory Committee and discussions with Treasury have resulted in a revised date of 30 May, rather than April.
Guidance will still be sent to local authorities in advance of this date.
